Sunrise with Cross on Easter

During this time of physical distancing, many Easter traditions have been suspended or changed. One tradition at St. Elmo UMC is for the congregation to bring flowers to decorate the cross that was placed in front of the church on Good Friday transforming it from a barren cross draped in a black cloth to a cross full of vibrant life with a white cloth. Without the congregation gathering at the church this year, many just accepted the fact that a white cloth would be the only reflection of the joy that He has risen this year. However, someone took the initiative and time to beautifully decorate the cross with many flowers. This act brought joy and hope to many. Danny Tullier, Thank You!

“A friend invited me to church. The people here seem to be a rare breed. I feel The Life Force here. I see Jesus’ love. I think I’ll stay and see what this new journey brings. Maybe, there is a place for me. a place to be, to help.” ~Thorny Gates

The homeless ministry continues even during the pandemic. Mike Rice and Scottie Bowman, owner of the Big Chill, dropped off boxed meals prepared at the Big Chill to the Community Center to feed the homeless on Thursday, March 26, 2020.
